it was so pretty here
Mariah and I went to a couple graveyards yesterday and got some rubbings. I would love to go to some in Cape Cod where there are all those skull and angel ones (someday) but we did find some cool old stones~and that led me to an idea for a design, which I have started~motifs from old tombstones.

Oh wow!! Hey, I know they're not the famed New England tombstones, but the graves in your photos have such wonderful detail! The new sampler sounds great, too.

Is this an American thing, I wonder? I had never heard about taking these tombstone rubbings until I got into cross stitch. Also I've never seen tombstones such as these! Wow. Very interesting. Looking forward to see what you design from them!

What a fun day! I love old graveyards and the one you and Mariah were in looks awesome. Fun that you could do the rubbings - a lot of places won't let you do that anymore. Can't wait to see your new design!
Brilliant, Lisa! What a great way to spend a day. I love your idea of incorporating these tombstones into a sampler.
I have been to the graveyards of Cape Cod, one in particular is fabulous, it is in the town of Sandwich. They do have the skulls with wings the angels and willow trees, as well as the great old wording and spelling. The setting is fantastic as well, kind of eerie overlooking Shawme pond, well worth a trip. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Lisa, Do try to make it back to Sandwich. The graveyard is actually called the Old Towne Cemetary, and it is particularly great in the fall. Great around Halloween! There are a couple of those rectangular cement vaults that are on the ground, several of them have cracked tops...really adds to the creep factor!
